Exterior Painting - Atlanta, Alpharetta, Roswell, Marietta, Duluth, Cumming
Exterior Painting in Atlanta and surrounding suburbs such as Alpharetta, Roswell, Marietta, and Duluth presents a number of issues commonly faced by painters. First of all, we are fortunate that in this climate we can complete exterior painting year-round. That is with the exception of the very coldest days, and of course rainy days. The newer and better paints are made to paint down to 35 degrees. It is a rare day in the Atlanta area when the temperature does not rise above 35 degrees. So this gives us the flexibility to complete exterior painting throughout the entire year. As for rain, our Atlanta painters keep a close watch on the weather and plan accordingly.
In this relatively humid climate, mold and mildew is an issue on almost every exterior surface (wood trim such as window and door casings, soffit and fascia; gutters and downspouts, and siding) and must be dealt with prior to painting. Most of the dingy or discolored appearance on older paint jobs is mold and mildew growing on the paint. Prior to painting, it is essential to both clean the surface and treat the existing mold and mildew by pressure washing with some type of mildewcide such as a diluted outdoor bleach solution. This helps prevent the existing mold and mildew from growing through the new paint. By the way, gutters are frequently the most improved looking part of Atlanta exterior painting as they are typically the most unsightly part of an exterior and look brand new after we paint them.
Wood repairs are a very common part of exterior painting in the Atlanta area. Many homes in this area have some rotten wood at window or door trim, soffit or fascia (eaves), or siding. As part of exterior painting, we routinely replace rotten window sills, moldings around windows and doors, wood trim around the eaves (soffit and fascia), and siding. Many homes in the Atlanta area have some type of Masonite siding and we take the approach of replacing this on an as needed basis with Hardiplank siding. Siding replaced can be anything from a few boards to the entire side of a home.
